The MAL provides a comprehensive soccer program throughout the fall for all age groups. For our younger participants, the emphasis is on developing fundamental skills and instilling the value of teamwork. As players get older, they enter a more competitive phase as we join the Northwest Bergen Soccer Association where we play surrounding towns in Bergen County. Soccer runs in the fall, typically starting in late August and running through November.
Kindergarden
The Kinderkicker program in Montvale focuses on teamwork and basic core skill development. Depending on the number of kids registered, they will be broken up into teams and will be led by a third party instructor. They will go through drills and towards the end of the season, will scrimmage against another Kinderkicker team. The sessions for this are typically 60 minutes and are once per week, on Sundays. The most important part of the program at this level are introducing the children to the sport and the kids having fun!
1-2 Boys and Girls
Similar to that of our Kinderkicker program, this program will build core skill development of the sport. It will be run by parent-volunteer coaches who typically meet 1-2 times per week for practice and one game on the weekend. The games will be against other teams within Montvale as the kids continue to build on their skills and learn the rules of the games with soccer officials. Kids are typically rotated in and out of positions across the field so they can get the feel of the entire game.
3-8 Boys and Girls
At this age group, kids from Montvale begin to play other towns as part of the Northwest Bergen Association. In a similar fashion to that of the 1-2 age groups, this is run by parent-volunteer coaches with 1-2 practices per week and a game on the weekend. Matches are fully officiated and kids are rotated in and out of various positions across the field as they are in 1-2. In general, it is a very similar structure to 1-2 with the exceptions of intensity level and playing other towns.
